Video Games

In the last decade, video games have improved a lot, graphics, sound effects and the variety of games has not become a big issue. Nowadays, most video games are played through the online system. Whereby, each player has a gamer tag that he can sign in and enjoy multi player gaming, download music and more interesting stuff. In my opinion, I think there are a lot of advantages and disadvantages. One of the advantages in video games is that lots of teenagers would rather to go out and enjoy their weekend either at the movies or the arcade place. However, this new technology can save a lot of money and time with one click away. Moreover, there is a big disadvantage that I see in online gaming where games sometimes can be addicted and you find some people cant even leave the controller and stop playing.

Animal Intelligence

Today I felt that my presentation went well. I was happy with the listening of my classmates to my ideas. I thought that they were interested in what I was saying and this made me feel quite good.

Here are the links to the animal videos that were part of my presentation today.

· This is the link for the video of the monkey playing with the tiger cubs.

IT IS NOT A STORY BUT A TRUE INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED IN AMERICA?????!!!!!!!!

A Saudi man walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the loan officer. He tells the loan officer that he is going to Saudi on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells him that the bank will need some form of security for the loan, so the Saudi man hands over the keys to a new Ferrari parked on the street in front of the bank. He produces the title and everything checks out. The loan officer agrees to accept the car as collateral for the loan. The bank's president and its officers all enjoy a good laugh at the Saudi for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral against a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drives the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the Saudi returns, repays the $5,000 and the interest, which comes to $15.41. The loan officer says, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multi millionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000'' The Saudi replies: 'Where else in New York City can I park my precious car for two weeks for only $15.41 and expect it to be there when I return!

Discrimination

In my country there is discrimination between different groups of people. The Bedouins in the country would never permit their sons or daughters to marry someone who is not a Bedouin. Furthermore, bedouins wont let an immigrant person marry their son or daughter. The Bedouins think that this kind of marriage would be a shame to the family and its traditions. They must only marry a Bedouin and usually someone who belongs to the family. A very smart and intelligent good man who wants to marry a Bedouin girl would not be accepted by the Bedouins because he is not one of them. That is the only reason they would not like him. This is just the way it was in the United States with the problem between the blacks and the whites. Mixing the two races there was seen as a big problem before, and I think it is still a big problem there. I don’t know why people think this way. We all have two arms and two legs. We are all human beings that can live along in this life with no such disceremination. No one is better than anyone else. In my opinion, i think people who still have that mentality must change it and always think optimasticaly with everyone.

Animal Intelligence

This research was more difficult than I thought. I thought I choose an easy topic but it was not. The part I liked the most was reading the examples of how animals show their intelligence. There are alot of examples of birds, insects and animals that show how really smart they are. The most challenging part of the research for me was the part that I did not understand. There are so many complicated ideas and terms in the research about animal intelligence. a lots of times I was so confused. I chose this topic because I want to know about animals and about the ways that they are think. I also saw a video on youtube about a buffalo and I wanted to know what that animal was thinking. I was sure that they were thinking. I have never written research paper in my own language so doing it in English was not different for me. It was just hard. There are so many crazy rules, especially the APA style! What is this crazy system? Now that I have finished the work I am happy. I am happy because it is over and I am happy because I did something that was hard. Next time I would choose an easier topic and organize my time better.

Highest Is Everything

If you thought that Burj Dubai is the end of the “Arabian Dream”, you are mistaking. Accourding to Haitham Sabbah, the new race in the the Gulf region is building the highest towers. Few years ago, Dubai mentions that they are going to spend few “Billions” of Dollars to build the highest tower in the world, a 818 meter high building. Any visitor to Dubai can notice this landmark from anywhere around Dubai. But that was just the beginning of the race to the highest buildings. After that, Kuwait is coming with new plan to beat Dubai by building its own “highest tower” in the world, which is going to be a 1001 meter high. Of course Dubai doesn’t like to be a loser, so they plans to challenge their own record, as well Kuwait’s Tower and spend more billions of dollars to take back the for Dubai. New proposals are in action and one of them is to build another tower in Dubai too. Rumors are saying that it will be as high as 1050-1200 meters. Bahrain has a proposal to build something in between, 1022 meter high, and the race goes on. Saudi Arabia and its multi billionaire Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal is going to join the race through his version of the “highest building”. But this one is really impressive. It is 1600 meters high. I say impressive because this number (1600m) is really crazy and will be crazy to compete with !!

Deja Dead

Kathy Reichs’ Deja Dead (1997)
This is a detective mystery novel, the kind that Reich’s always writes. Kathy Reichs is actually a forensic anthropologist and does police work all the time. What she brings to her books and especially to this one is her deep knowledge and understanding of what she is writing about. She knows every part of the forensic science skills need to solve murder mysteries.
Deja Dead is the story of her and the police’s efforts to solve five murders of women in the Montreal area. There are some striking similarities in the way the bodies of the women were killed and then mutilated. All of the women were cut into pieces after their deaths and the body parts were put into plastic garbage bags for easy disposal. The dismembering of the bodies reminded the investigators of the work of butchers, or of people who had a good understanding of how to take a body apart neatly. The one unclean cut that was made on the bodies of the victims was that in each case the hands were just chopped off. In three of the five cases objects had been inserted into the vaginas of the victims before they died. This must have caused them great suffering. The objects ranged from a bathroom plunger, a religious statue and a knife. These are the only clues that the police and Dr. Brennan have to deal with in solving the murders.
To further complicate the action of the story, Dr. Brennan is a difficult woman. She thinks that she knows both more and better than the police, and often leaves them out of her thinking. She meets the members of the victims’ families and asks them probing questions without the knowledge of the police team that she has promised to work with. She also complicates the issue by having her good friend Gabby move in with her and by inviting her daughter to visit her at a time when she knows that she is in danger from the serial killer. One of the most frustrating parts about reading this book is the number of times that Brennan goes off alone without police escort and gets herself into trouble. Her arrogance and sense of superiority somewhat spoil the excitement of the story. At times the reader is so angry with her for her stupidity that the action or events get forgotten. For sure, the importance of them is lost.
Several chapters in the book are simply repeating information or summarizing information that the reader might have forgotten. Again, it is like the author thinks very poorly of the remembering skills of the reader. She certainly finds it necessary to retell information at least five or six times, so that we are very clear about it.
In the end, it appears that there are two suspects who could have committed the crimes. It comes down to Dr. Brennan figuring out which one of the two was the killer. For sure the police could not do it. She does figure out who the murderer is, and of course she is right there with the police when the man is arrested. She saves herself and her daughter from the killer, and ends the story as being the hero. It would certainly be interesting to read this same story from the viewpoint of the policemen who had to work with this difficult woman. I am certain it would have been a very different story.
